Loris Sofia Gregory is a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of talents and expertise.

  • Historian, Researcher, and Writer: Loris has over 35 years of experience at the Minnesota Historical Society, where she contributed significantly to various aspects of history. Her work includes efficient research, writing, editing, and content development for online and print articles, blogs, books, classes, exhibits, films, and multimedia. She specializes in Minnesota, Midwestern, and U.S. history, including indigenous and women's history; family, business, house/home and land histories; and genealogy. Loris is recognized for her ability to create engaging non-fiction stories through interweaving information, original perspectives, and wisdom.

  • Archivist and 3D Collections: During her tenure at the Minnesota Historical Society for 18 years, Loris cataloged and organized 3D collections and material culture as well as served as a content lead and developer for exhibits, multimedia presentations and outdoor trail interpretation. Her expertise extends to preserving family memories and stories, heirlooms, documents and photos to ensure their accessibility for future generations.

  • Health Coach and Community Educator: Loris is passionate about promoting healthy living. As a health coach for 15 years, she inspires clients and class participants toward lighter, healthier, toxin-free bodies, kitchens, homes, and lives. Her holistic approach emphasizes conscious living and well-being.

  • Collaboration with Dr. C. Thomas Shay: Loris collaborated with Dr. C. Thomas Shay, a Senior Scholar, Archaeologist, and Ethnobotanist with the University of Manitoba. Together, they worked on the book titled “Under Prairie Skies: The Plants and Native Peoples of the Northern Plains.” This illuminating work explores the interdependence of Native people and plants before European contact.
